From a Sculptor to an Empress

Yvonne Domenge is a Mexican sculptor with more than 35 years of accomplishments. For the second time, she is a member of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte del FONCA (Art Creators National System). She is working on 2 sculptures for the new building in Palacio Nacional, both of them are in the Jardín de la Emperatriz (Empress's Garden).

To achieve these sculptures, Domenge uses the empress's ruffles and silk embroidery, brought from Europe to make her wardrobe, as a plastic metaphor. The pieces represent, as well, the turbulences, gaps and despair rhythms of the empress personal life. As said by the Choreographer Oscar Ruvalcaba Pérez: “She dared loving, dreaming and fighting.”

Both pieces made of carbon steel, with 5 and 2 mt diameter and 32 tons, Domenge locate them, strategically , to distinguish the contemporary from the Colonial architecture styles.

The new building is composed of a Museum and offices and was inaugurate by Lic. Francisco Gil Días. It's admirable that such an important and full of history enclosure offers this exhibition space for urban sculptures.
